Folk Tales: Stories from Bengal

Folk tales are usually a collection of wit and wisdom passed on along the ages, from generation to generation.

In our motherland particularly, they become representations of a rich and enchanting culture. They celebrate the bright colours of diversity across our country, and bring to life people who stand out in incredibly memorable ways.

These characters - of clever tongue, astute judgement and unconventional approaches to solving crises - become exemplary role models of innovation and quick thinking. They encourage us to take risks, trust our gut and bank on common sense.

In this collection of translated oral tales from Bengal, you will encounter Gopal Bhar who measures the length and breadth of the earth. Next up, a tale of the barber who tames a fierce brahmarakshasa! And finally, a comedy of errors, as chaos descends upon the heavens, so much so that the gods don disguises and walk amongst mortals, to resolve a mess of their own making.

We hope you too will find yourself laughing out loud and falling in love with these stories, just like we did.
